Product Introduction

Pea protein powder is a high-quality protein extracted from peas using advanced low-temperature and low-pressure technology. Pea protein contains all eight essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. Peas are legumes rich in various nutrients, especially high-quality proteins. Unlike animal proteins, legumes do not contain cholesterol.

Pea Protein Production Process

Peas → Cleaning → Soaking → Grinding → Separation of liquid and residue → Centrifugation to remove starch → Acid precipitation → Centrifugation separation → Alkali dissolution of precipitate → Spray drying → Finished product.

Peas, after impurity removal, are soaked in water for 12–24 hours, then washed clean. The peas are ground using a mill, and the residue is ground three times. The slurry is centrifuged at 1500 r/min for 3 minutes to remove the residue. The supernatant is acidified to a pH of about 4.4 to precipitate the protein, then centrifuged to remove the supernatant. The acid-precipitated protein is dissolved by adjusting the pH to around 7.0 with alkali, then homogenized and spray-dried to produce pea protein powder.

Plant Source

Peas (Pisum sativum L.) are annual climbing herbaceous plants in the legume family. They grow to a height of 0.5–2 meters with heart-shaped leaves and ovate leaflets. The flower calyx is bell-shaped with lanceolate lobes; the flower corolla varies in color, mostly white or purple; the pods are swollen, elongated, and have a pointed end; the seeds are round, greenish, and wrinkled or smooth, turning yellow when dry. The flowering period is from June to July, and the fruiting period is from July to September. The term "pea" is derived from the description of its delicate, twisting shoots.

Peas originated in the western regions of Asia and the Mediterranean coast. Their cultivation dates back at least 6,000 years. Legend has it that Zhang Qian from the Han Dynasty introduced peas to China from the Western Regions. Peas were first introduced to China's northwest, then spread inland, with over 3,000 years of cultivation history. Peas are primarily grown in Sichuan, Henan, Hubei, Jiangsu, Qinghai, and Jiangxi provinces. They thrive in cool, sunny climates, are cold and drought-resistant, and do not tolerate heat well. They grow best in slightly acidic or neutral soil and require crop rotation, drainage, and weeding.

Peas are one of China's major edible bean crops, known for their high nutritional value and physiological activities including antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-cancer, blood pressure-lowering, blood sugar-reducing, and immune-regulating effects. Industrial production focuses mainly on processing pea starch and protein. Peas hold a special place in Chinese culture, with references in Yuan Dynasty poetry and imagery used in the artwork of Feng Zikai to represent maternal love.
